This page covers what Horological History collects, why, and which companies process it. We do not sell reader data.
Reading the site. We use Google Analytics to see which books are viewed and which pages visitors arrive from. It records approximate location, browser, the pages you visit, and an identifier stored in a cookie. We use it in aggregate.
Downloading a free book. Nothing is required. Every digital edition can be downloaded without giving us an email address. If you do give us one, we add it to our mailing list, along with which book prompted the signup, and use it to announce new restorations. Every message carries an unsubscribe link.
Buying a printed book. We collect your name, shipping address and email address in order to post the parcel. Card details are entered into a payment form hosted by Square; they do not pass through our site or our servers, and we never see your card number. We keep a record of the order for support, returns and accounting.
Writing to us. The contact form collects your name, email address and message. It is protected by Google reCAPTCHA, which reports your IP address to Google.

Each receives only what it needs to perform its function. We do not sell, rent, or trade your information, and we do not provide it to advertisers or data brokers. We disclose information where the law requires it, such as a subpoena or court order.
The site is served over HTTPS, card details never reach our servers, and access to order records is limited to the operator. If a breach affects your information, we will notify you.
Google Analytics sets cookies to distinguish repeat visits. The shopping cart stores its contents in your browser's session storage, which is cleared when you close the tab and is never sent to us. We do not use advertising or cross-site tracking cookies. Blocking cookies does not prevent reading, downloading, or buying.
Order records are kept for support, returns and tax accounting. Mailing list addresses are kept until you unsubscribe or ask to be removed. Analytics data expires on Google's schedule. Order details also appear in our hosting provider's server logs, which we keep for troubleshooting.
Every email we send carries an unsubscribe link. You may ask what we hold about you, ask for it to be corrected, or ask us to delete it, subject to records we are required to keep for tax purposes. Residents of California, the European Union and the United Kingdom have specific statutory rights along these lines; we act on requests from anyone, wherever you live.
